Jeremy Zawodny: why companies need blogs

One year ago, I took a picture at Pubcon of Yahoo!s Jeremy Zawodny standing in front of a slide about blogging. This year, I did exactly the same thing. The only difference is what was on the slide. In 2004, it was about the disadvantages of blogging: comment spam, high abandonment rate, variable quality. This year, it was about why companies need blogs. Read it yourself.

@Joe: Jeremy Zawodny is not someone I would like to call "this salesman". He's without no doubt one of yahoo's most important voices. If you don't agree with the bullet points for big companies, just think about what Robert Scoble did for Microsoft. His blog just did all those things for Microsoft.

Any idea where we can find those slides Luc?

Thx.

With all respect, but to my humble opinion these points just look like a list of hollow slogans, made by somebody who doesn't really feel what companies need but who tries to push his product as "the next big thing that you cannot afford not to have".

If I would be a decisionmaker at Ford, Bank of America, Pfizer, Publix, McDonalds, or even a small retailer, I would certainly not be convinced and I would send this salesman away.

But of course there are possible (niche) markets for blogging.

@Bart: I wrote two years ago (in Dutch) about the UN trying to get control over ICANN: http://lvb.net/item/253

That post is still valid today.

Luc: sorry to bother you.
Two questions: (i) does this Jeremy publish his slides/speech somewhere? (ii) does your seminar address the issue of who will control the internet (US vs. UN)? See http://www.opinionjournal.c...
For me, as an internet neofiet, it is hard to understand the concept of "control" of something fleeting as the internet, but maybe LVB.NET can devote some time and explanations on this? :-)
Kind regards,
Bart
