Europeans in favor of military action against Iran
52 percent of Europeans would support military action against Iran, if such an action could prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. That is the result of a poll by the French agency TNS Sofres. The poll was held before the capture of the 15 British marines by Iran. 17.000 Europeans were questioned in the 27 member countries of the EU. In Denmark, 68 percent are in favor. Belgium comes second place with 65 percent in favor. Germany (45 percent) and Spain (42 percent) are among nine countries were no majority exists in favor of military action. Slovakia (38 percent) and Malta (37 percent) are the least enthousiastic about military action. 81 percent of Europeans think the Iranian leaders are lying when they say that their nuclear program will only serve peaceful purposes.

Check out who paid for that inquiery :)
I just don't believe most of Europeans want a new war ... just like most of Americans. The majority is against the Iraq policy, so I guess they don't want to make the conflict getting bigger ... the people that is ... of course the neo-cons desperately want to mess up the middle-east this would mean even more profits for them ...

zondag, 22 april, 2007 - 18:11Although I think Iran would be happy to get nuclear weapons, their point of needing nuclear energy is also justified. Iran has a large population, and nuclear energy is their only option to obtain electricity at low cost, high efficiency (water power, oil & gas are not going to cut it for them). To be fair, if one is really interested in a nuclear-free Middle East, one has to point to Israel as well, but they of course never sign on to the NPT. I do think that when Iran would eventually resign itself from the NPT, a case of military action against the country could be made much easier; but Iran is of course not -that- stupid.

zaterdag, 7 april, 2007 - 18:27Worthy of publishing in Dutch too. The Flemish tend to provincialism and do not know about and are hardly (neutrally) informed of anything "unbelgian".
